Fourth of July

We had a great Fourth of July. We went camping close by in the mountains of Colorado Springs. We are so fortunate to live here, it is really beautiful. We went on hikes, climbed rocks, played games, made smores, and made it back in time for fireworks. We got together with our neighbors and lit of some of our own. Our neighborhood was alive with fireworks going off, we could have saved our money and just watched everyone light theres off. What a fun Fourth. We are glad to have a day to celebrate our freedom and our country. We are blessed to live here.

We encountered a bit of rain on our camp out. However that did not ruin our fun. We had a very creative and smart guy with us. Jeff made a cover over our fire with our tarp, some wood and rope. We were still able to cook our dinner in the rain!
He also propped up the kids wet shoes and pants every day (they got wet a lot between rain and playing in the reservoir). They dried pretty quick and the kids thought it was the funnies thing. At least they had dry clothes and shoes.
Our kids are ready for some camping, even if it is cold and rainy. That won't stop them!
Breakfast, yum, yum, nothing like flavored oatmeal out in the woods.
Jackie and Dallin made little forts our of whatever they could find. They then used little rocks to see who could knock down each others fort first. They made some neat looking forts.
Our first outing was a hike around a beautiful reservoir. We stopped halfway for lunch and let the kids play on the rocks and bit in the water. They had a blast and ended up walking the rest of the way in wet shorts and shoes.

I love this picture of Brea with her Daddy. The flower in her hand and laying against Dad, with that sly little smile - Precious!

On the way home from our camp out we stopped at the backside of Garden of the Gods and climbed all around on the rocks. The kids love to climb, and have no fear - Yikes! Even Brea wanted to walk on her own. We have never been to that part of the park, it was a lot of fun and not as crowded as the main area. Definitely a place we will have to return to.

To end our fun weekend we celebrated the tradional way - with fireworks. Here are the kids waving their sparklers in praise of America!
