4th of July 2013

We celebrated the 4th of July this year with a yummy breakfast from our local Fire Department.  We also got to tour inside the fire trucks and see all their gear.  Just as we were leaving two helicopters landed right in the middle of the road.  The wind from their propellers was stronger than I thought and all the sand and little pebbles on the road blew up in our faces. The kids thought it was pretty neat to watch.
After the breakfast we took a long family bike ride through Fountain Nature Center down to Fountain Creek Park.  The kids did well, after we got off the main roads.  It was a bit tricky trying to get us all across the road at the stoplights.  The trail part was fun and the kids put in a lot of miles.
Then that afternoon we had a BBQ at a friends house and let the kids play while we visited.  We came home with about an hour to prepare dinner for the Missionaries, another BBQ.  Then Dad took Dallin and Jackie to watch the fireworks.  Living in Colorado we have not had the opportunity to go to a firework show since Jackie was little (usually we have a ban on all fireworks).  This year we had a good rain fall the day before so they decided to have the show.  This was the first on Jackie remembers and the first Dallin has ever seen.  They were so amazed at each one, even before the finale.  Jeff was entertained by watching them be entertained.  We are grateful for the freedoms we enjoy and had a wonderful day celebrating it as a family.
